After finishing Paul Gilbert’s last European tour as FOH, I finally can enjoy dedicating my time to mix the Pro Tools multitrack session recorded during some of his shows encounting the biggest and most challenging issue, which is to actually deal with the sound bleeding from the loud stage into the vocal microphone; this is not a new thing to FOH daily routing but in this case it is definitely hard core.
And incredibly this loud bleeding sound-wall is not coming from Thomas’s (Lang) solid drums playing, but from Paul’s muscular amps, two cuttin’ through Marshall combos set on fire!
Time to deal with a combination of “acrobatic” EQ, gate/expander on his vocal track before even thinkin’ on compressing it, for sure!
